What is Sound Healing?
Sound Healing is a non-invasive deeply relaxing therapy, during which the practitioner plays a series of sound healing instruments to create a soothing soundscape, specifically designed to promote relaxation, relieve stress and anxiety, and bring the body and mind back into alignment.
On a scientific level, the instruments produce sound waves of varying frequencies, that then travel to the body and encourage “entrainment” of the patient’s heart rate, brainwaves and breath - in other words, your body and breath start to synchronise with the slow rhythmic playing of the instruments. This process slows down the brainwaves and activates the parasympathetic nervous system, therefore promoting deep relaxation and a dream-like state, during which the body itself can start to repair. The varying frequencies also target different energy points in the body, which in turn encourages re-alignment.
Sound Healing is excellent for treating stress, anxiety, insomnia, plus many physical aches and pains. It can be performed on a single patient, or on a group of patients, often referred to as a Sound Bath.
Instruments used include crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, chimes, gongs, drums, and rain sticks.
